How do you deal with this?

Try going to your friends and relatives for help? If you’re lucky, they may express sympathy, and listen to your story, your cry for help—once But don’t expect any more than that. As one person said:

       "You are where you are because of the choices you made in your life. Deal with it!"

You can’t really blame them--they have no idea what you are enduring, nor can they. They're sorry and maybe frustrated because they haven't a clue as to what you can do or how they can help. There is also the same feeling that most people have when they see an accident:  "Thank God! Not me!"

The only people who can understand are those who have experienced something similar.

And that is where we come in. First off, as we all know, you can't control all circumstances of life nor the choices that are thus open to us. Instead of, "You are where you are because of the choices you made in your life. Deal with it," we offer this  more realistic interpretation:

"You are where you are because of the circumstances that life presented you and the choices that you could make at the time. You may not be responsible for the circumstances, but you ARE responsible for how you choose to deal with your altered circumstances, and, above all, how you choose to FEEL about it.

 As a dear friend told us when Robert was in hospital for one of his many operations:

WHAT DO WE OFFER?

WE OFFER A COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE WHOSE LIVES HAVE BEEN SO RADICALLY CHANGED THAT THEY, IN EFFECT, HAVE TO START ALL OVER.

1. A CHANCE TO REGAIN HOPE.

This comes from  a membership in a Community of people “like me,” and the opportunity to interact with others who understand, and can provide advice, ideas, and suggestions to help you get “restarted.”

We know and understand how such living is, and we appreciate the difficulties that each of us faces.

To enable interaction with one another, we provide blogging and forum functions. You access these via the navigation buttons. There is an extensive “Help” facility to help make your sessions easy and enjoyable.

2. Information about products and services of specific value, use, and/or interest to members are presented in our newsletter.

Very soon we will be providing additional, useful resources for members--both free and for purchase. These will be available from producers who we have found to provide excellence in product and service. We restrict our recommendations to resources that are known to be useful and have reasonable prices.

3. For those who might wish to build their own business, we can provide information about methods and resources, because we have been there, and done that. Later, we may arrange consulting for those who desire it.


WHAT DOES IT COST?

NOTHING. At this time, and for the near future, membership is FREE!

We may make these facilities into a fee-based membership site at some future time, but with one condition:

       If you join now, your membership will ALWAYS be free.

You will remain a free member forever, unless, of course, you violate some of the rules we have for posting entries in blogs or forums. Barring that, your membership is forever free. Period.

The opportunity to be in an internet-based community of people like you. They understand what you have experienced, and you understand them in a way that others will never be able to understand.


WHY SHOULD YOU BELIEVE US?

For the reason that we have experienced many of the more serious conditions that cause maximum change in one’s Way of Life. We know how it is to have our whole lives turned upside down, to be physically disabled and treated as “someone to keep at a distance.”

When we speak of "pain," we don't mean something like a small bump or a bruise, or even a sprained ankle. We have all experienced these.

We mean pain that is far and away more intense, and never lets up--pain so great that only a great deal of morphine, or something similar, can reduce, but never eliminate, it. It is like the difference between an Indianapolis 500-level racing car and a Volkswagen. Both are "cars," in the strict sense of the term; but there the similarity ends.

We have lost a child, leaving a pain that is beyond healing.

We know how it is to lose a job during a “Reduction in Force (RIF). Robert lost his job while recovering from an extremely serious post-operative infection.

We know how suddenly and how viciously life can change because of conditions beyond our control--to say that life “changes” is truly an understatement. The change leads to a completely different Way of Life!

Dreams and plans disappear as thoroughly as a glass vase is shattered when a truck running at full speed hits it—you cannot find a single shred to remind you of what might have been.



We have found that one common difficulty from such a life is the greatly reduced social interaction with “normal” people. There are many reasons for this, but that does not reduce the difficulties and often the loneliness of one's life situation. Others who are in similar life situations have told us it is the same for them.

Our first step is to provide facilities for both blogging and forums as a means of communicating. This will enable us all to share ways and means to meet the challenges that we all face.

We will also seek to identify resources that can provide help in developing new interests, e.g., a new hobby, or expanding an existing one, or maybe start an internet-based business. We can provide a great deal of help in this endeavor—what to do, and, mostly, what NOT to do.

In return, we ask that you subscribe to our newsletter (and keep your subscription active). It will contain information that may make life a little easier for all of us.
